Utilities Person -2 Openings
Niagara University, a private Catholic institution sponsored by the Vincentian Community seeks a UTILITIES PERSON - 2 full-time positions in Facility Services who under specific supervision, performs various minor/medium repairs to the university's buildings in the plumbing, carpentry, electrical and masonry fields.

  • Maintains and repairs sinks, toilets, urinals, showers and drinking fountains;
  • Maintains and repairs furniture, cabinets, counter tops, medpar partitions, ceiling and floor tiles;
  • Maintains and repairs lighting fixtures, switches, receptacles and fire protective devices;
  • Performs various painting, spackling and staining;
  • Inspects buildings, facilities and equipment to ascertain required repairs and makes recommendations to supervisor;
  • Prepares and submits requisitions for materials required to complete tasks. Plan work to insure cost effective use of labor and materials;
  • Assembles equipment and merchandise;
  • Adjust and repair door hardware;
  • Perform preventative maintenance on the university's buildings and equipment;
  • Perform masonry repairs and do concrete work;
  • Considered essential personnel which means that this position may be needed at times when the University is closed or on emergency situations.

Requirements: General knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical; General knowledge of construction principles; Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions; Ability to work effectively as a individual or within a team as well as with diverse groups; Ability to respond to off-hour calls for emergency repairs; Ability to work effectively in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities; problem-solving skills and sound judgment; Ability to understand and apply university and departmental policies and procedures; Adhere to safety procedures in the performance of job and be conscious of security issues involved in daily routine; Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business; Must have the ability to work second shift and weekend shifts.

Qualifications: High school diploma or any combination of education, training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities; Minimum of five years experience in building maintenance; Valid driver's license that meets insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.

Start of pay range is $12.50 per hour.
