Health Education Coordinator
Niagara University, a private Catholic university sponsored by the Vincentian Community, seeks a Health Education Coordinator. This part-time seasonal (750 - 796 annual hours) position in the Student Health Services department reporting to the Director of Health Services is responsible for providing leadership in the development and coordination of campus wide student wellness programs and services delivered through Student Health Services in the sector of Student Life.

The Health Education Coordinator works collaboratively with staff, students and faculty to respond to the needs of a culturally diverse student body. The Health Education Coordinator designs, establishes and maintains effective health education programs & services which promote well informed, healthy lifestyle choices, seeks to improve students’ productivity and enhances their opportunity for achieving their academic, career and personal goals.

• Conduct health risk assessments using tools such as the National College Health Assessment to identify factors which negatively affect the academic performance of students;
• Identify priorities for health promotion and education activities using data from assessment tools;
• Be knowledgeable of the research regarding ‘evidence based best practices’ for health promotion and wellness activities and programs;
• Identify appropriate health promotion initiatives from other college settings and public health;
• Design, implement and evaluate the learning outcomes of wellness education programs & services that address health issues that negatively contribute to their academic success;
• Identify the student’s preferred method of receiving health information;
• Provide individual counseling to students addressing their health promotion and wellness needs;
• Submit purchase requests for health education resources and maintain an inventory;
• Identify health education resources needed and submit annual budget requests to the Director;
• Make recommendations for policy development that promote a healthy campus environment;
• Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student assistants and Peer Educators;
• Function in a advisory capacity on the Student Health Advisory Board;
• Develop relationships with community agencies and identifies opportunities for collaboration in health promotion activities;
• Maintain relationships with associate Student Health colleagues;
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Master’s degree Health education, Health Promotion, Public Health or closely related field;
2) Minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience of providing leadership and managing health education programs and services in a higher education setting or related setting;
3) Experience in developing, implementing & evaluating outcome driven health education preferred;

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Knowledge of college health issues, risk behaviors of young adults affecting academic success and public health issues.
2) Knowledge of outcome driven health promotion strategies and population based health education methods.
3) Knowledge of learning, teaching, developmental and motivational theories.
4) Knowledge and skill in interpreting research and applying research into practice.
5) Ability to design, develop and implement wellness education programs and services applying population based education strategies; evaluate health education initiatives using outcomes based learning.
6) Knowledge and skill in designing educational materials using web-based and multi-media strategies.
7) Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty and community agencies.
8) Skill in selecting, training, supervising and evaluating student employees and Peer Educators.
9) Proficient with computer skills including word processing and internet research.
10) Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
11) Ability to read, comprehend and communicate clearly and understandably in the English language.
12) Proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, copy machine and fax.
13) Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone.
14) Ability to work flexible hours days and evenings during the week and occasional weekends. Scheduling of hours is adjusted on a weekly basis.

The start of the pay range is $16.00 per hour.
