Assistant Baseball Coach (PT - Seasonal)
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision the Assistant Baseball Coach assists the head coach in developing student athletes academically and athletically for the baseball program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Contributes to the educational mission of the University by coordinating the instruction of student-athletes in the area of baseball training and competition;
- Recruits student athletes for the baseball program;
- Provides academic support for student athletes;
- Provides motivation, counseling and supervision for student athletes;
- Monitors study hall;
- Instructs methods and strategies and coaches student athletes in the sport;
- Follows and conforms to NCAA rules and regulations;
- Serves as an instructor during youth camps;
- Faculty and staff are expected to maintain the confidentiality of all confidential and proprietary information (including but not limited to: student personal information, student grades, employee personal information, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of baseball coaching and teaching techniques and the ability to effectively use them.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and communicate with others by telephone.
- Ability to travel when necessary.
- Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to effectively use them.
- Proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, copy machine and fax.
- Knowledge of academic eligibility rules.
- Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
- Bachelor degree or high school diploma with high level amateur or professional playing and/or coaching experience required.
- At least one year of experience coaching baseball at the high school, college or higher competitive level or at least three years experience playing baseball at the college level or higher.
- Must pass NCAA recruiting exam within the first year.
- Valid driver's license is required. License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria.
