Associate Vice President for Public Relations, Communications & Marketing
JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision the Associate Vice President for Public Relations, Communications and Marketing is responsible for the integrated marketing and communications programs of the University; responsible for effective positioning, marketing and branding of the University and serves as an integral resource for a coordinated and consistent message and image for the University. These responsibilities include assuring a positive image of the University by coordinating internal and external University communications assuring accuracy and consistency of all University messages both explicit and inferred.

Responsibility includes the oversight and approval of all University internal communications and external public relations and mass communications. The Associate Vice President is an integral member of the University's decision making process and acts as the primary spokesperson for the University.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

1. Bachelor's degree in related field required; a Master's degree is preferred.

2. A minimum of ten years of increasing responsibility and practical experience in public relations, marketing, media relations.

3. Demonstrated College or University experience with marketing, communications and media relations.

4. Detailed understanding of the complexities facing higher education with regard to marketing, fundraising, public images and advertising.

5. Demonstrated creativity in development of functionally related programs resulting in positive, measurable results.

6. Demonstrated vision to formulate long range goals and programs resulting in measurable achievement.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Excellent communications skills, including exceptional writing skills and public speaking abilities

2. Ability to formulate, develop, implement and analyze programs for the dissemination of University information and expand the recognition of Niagara University's mission, image and resources,

3. Ability and availability to work as circumstances and issues may require.

4. Strong organizational skills with attention to details.

5. Ability to read and comprehend various report and forms and handle confidential information in a professional manner.

6. Computer literate, including Microsoft Office, and ability to learn new computer software programs.

7. Sufficient manual dexterity with proficiency to handle various office machines including but not limited to: keyboard, calculator, computer and fax machine.

8. Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries and effectively communicate with others by telephone or electronic media, with or without reasonable accommodations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Serve as the chief communications and marketing officer of the University and a member of of the President's Administrative Council.
  • Provide vision, leadership, management, and support for the University to assure a uniform and consistent message.
  • Proactively develop the means, medium and message to assure continued national recognition of the University.
  • Ensure positive public relations for the University and identify new public relations approaches through effective media relations and interactions.
  • Provide leadership in marketing and the University's education initiatives to the public and chairs the university marketing committee
  • Establish positive media relations and develop and implement strategies to assure effective coverage of Niagara University.
  • Work closely with Enrollment Management to obtain enrollment objectives.
  • Member of the Crisis Response Team (CRT) and Committee for Crisis Management (CCM).
  • Editorial direction of all University communications including style, production, content and distribution for both internal and external publications assuring consistency of University brand and print style in all print and electronic communications and licensed memorabilia and novelty products
  • Develop the annual University-wide marketing and communications plan, establishing qualitative benchmarks, monitoring progress, evaluating results and addressing shortfalls.
  • Oversees the public relations, communications and marketing budget assuring effectiveness of expenditures.
  • Direction and management of the sports information function for all athletic programs assuring a positive image in the community and team recognition.
  • Overall responsibility for the University's presence on the World Wide Web including development and maintenance of the content and links as well as design of the marketing and branding pages
  • Work closely with the University President to support his administrative and fundraising efforts and assure all communications are on-message.
  • Overall responsibility for the University's communications (excluding telephone communications)
  • Identify, develop and implement branding strategies to further name recognition of the University in local, regional and national communications
  • Responsible for communications of special events and functions
  • Responsible for videotape productions and communications assuring a consistent University message and branding
  • Leadership in exploring greater facilitation of social media networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc
  • Monitor and control the use of the University's name, logo, trademarks, copyrights and branding to assure only authorized use.
  • Employees are expected to maintain the confidentiality of all confidential and proprietary information (including but not limited to: student personal information, student grades, employee personal information, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University.
